How long does delivery take?
Delivery usually takes 3β7 business days, depending on your location.
Should I refrigerate olive oil?
Not necessary, but OK if your kitchen is very warm. It will solidify (cloudy, thick) but returns to normal at room temperature. No harm done.
What's the olive oil shelf life?
Unopened: 18-24 months from harvest. Opened: 2-3 months for best quality. Always check expiry date.
Can I reuse olive oil after frying?
Not recommended. Reheating degrades quality and creates harmful compounds. If you must: strain, store in dark bottle, use within days, and don't reheat above original temperature.
Is cloudy oil bad?
No! Cloudy or sediment means unfiltered, often a GOOD sign. It's fresh with more flavor. Some prefer filtered for aesthetics, but both are quality.
Does color indicate quality?
Not really. Color ranges from golden to deep green depending on olive variety and processing. Green doesn't always mean better. Trust your nose and palate.
Can I substitute olive oil for butter?
Yes! In most recipes: Baking - Use 3/4 cup EVOO for every 1 cup butter. Cooking - 1:1 substitution. Adds moisture and Mediterranean flavor.
Is the Mediterranean diet expensive?
Not necessarily! While quality olive oil costs more upfront, the diet emphasizes affordable staples: legumes, seasonal vegetables, and eggs. Fish is the main splurge, but even canned sardines count. It can actually be cheaper than a meat-heavy Western diet.
Can I lose weight on the Mediterranean diet?
Yes! Studies show it's more effective for weight loss than low-fat diets and much easier to maintain long-term. The key is portion awareness with calorie-dense foods (olive oil, nuts, healthy light snacks) while eating abundant vegetables and whole foods.
How can I reduce food waste at home?
Plan meals in advance, store food properly, use the FIFO method, repurpose leftovers, serve mindful portions, and compost scraps. These habits cut down on spoilage and wasted money.
What is FIFO in the kitchen?
FIFO stands for First In, First Out. It's an inventory method where you use the oldest food items first. Place newer groceries at the back and older ones in front so nothing gets forgotten.
What foods are best for composting?
Great compost items include fruit and vegetable peels, coffee grounds, tea bags, eggshells, and yard trimmings. Avoid meat, dairy, and oily foods, as they can attract pests.
Why is food waste bad for the environment?
Food waste in landfills produces methane, a powerful greenhouse gas. Wasting food also wastes water, energy, and resources used in farming and transportation. Reducing food waste supports climate action and sustainability.
